Civil rights case files, 1940-1974.

These records function to document the activities of the Attorney General's Office regarding civil rights cases in Alabama. Some of the information available includes background of cases, how Alabama and its people reacted to the civil rights movement, and how the legal system was used regarding civil rights. The bulk of the cases range from 1963-1970. Among the more prominent cases are: United States v. Wilcox County Board of Education; Joe L. Reed and Albert Harris v. Lurleen Burns Wallace (born Lurleen Brigham Burns; September 19, 1926 – May 7, 1968) was the 46th governor of Alabama for fifteen months from January 1967 until her death in May 1968.
